When you play poker you are at some point going to have to go All In (if you are playing in a tournament than this is pretty much adefinately going to happen).

All-In can either make or break you. If you go All In and get called or you have called someone else and you lose then you are going to be out. On th eother hand, if you go "All In" and win then you stand to at leats double your chips (if you get called by just 1 other player) or just take a pot un-challenged as others may not be willing to go All-In with you.

Also, yyou may find that you get 2 other players call your "All-In" so you could really increase your chip stack.

Obviously if you are in a tournament and only have a few chips left and are one of the blinds then it may be the case that you have to go All In as the blind has taken most of what you have left so you might just have to bite the bullet and hope...

If you are confident in your hand or have studdied other players and feel that they woul dbe unlikely to call you then sometimes you just have to have faith in the strength of your hand!
