- Ante -
Bet that players have to make to play to ensure there is money in the
pot
- Bad
Beat - A bad beat is when you lose with a very good hand, usually
by a lucky last turn of a card makes the other player the winner
- Bait -
Small bet aimed at trying to get other players to stay in the game,
bet or raise
- Bank Role
- You're total amount of money you plan to play with
- Base Deal
- Dealing cards from the bottom of the pack of cards instead of the
top
- Bet -
Placing you're money you want to gamble in the pot
- Blind
- A bet that is required before any cards are dealt. Usually there is
a Small Blind and a Big
Blind
- Bluff
- To try and trick others into thinking you have a better hand than
you actually have and betting or raising with it
- Burn -
To deal away and discard the top card of the deck before play starts
- Bust -
A hand not worth playing as it has little value
- Buy In
- The minimum amount of money required to enter the game
- Call -
Match the current highest bet
- Cash In
- To change you're money into chips
- Cash Out
- To change you're chips into money
- Check
- To pass your go and not betting
- Community
Cards - Cards placed in the center of the table face up for all players
to use in Texas Hold'em, and Omaha
- Dead
Mans Hand - The hand Wild Bill Hickok had when he was killed, 2
aces and 2 eight's
- Face Card
- Any of the cards with a face, such as Jack, Queen and King
- Flop -
The first 3 community cards (see above) dealt for everyone to use
- Flush
- Poker hand with 5 cards of the same
suit
- Fourth
Street - The first card turned over after the Flop (so it will be the
4th community card) or the second face up card in 7 card stud. Fourth
Street is also known as "Turn card"
- Heads
Up - Where there is just 2 players left playing against each other
- Loose
game - Game with a lot of players in most hands
- No Limit
- Game where players can bet as many of their chips as they want to
all if they want to
- Pot Limit
- Allowing players to bet up to the amount of chips
in the pot
- Raise
- To call and increase previous bet
- Re-Raise
- To raise another players raise
- River
- The last round of betting, also know as "Fifth Street"
- Showdown
- Finding out who is the winner once all the bets have been place and
cards dealt
- Split
Pot - The pot is divided between players either because their hands
are of equal value or they both agree before the showdown to do so
- Stack
- A players chips
