With the increasing popularity of poker and with more TV shows dedicated to poker it is helping boost the popularity of poker. Many people sit and watch the poker tournaments on the television and pick up how to play the game. One of the problems with poker on TV is that when viewers are watching it they think that if they copy how the professional poker players play then they are onto a winner. The thing is though that when you watch poker on TV you may only be seeing the highlights of the tournament or game. As poker games can last for hours or even days then you in many cases don't get to see all the "boring" hands that get played but just the big ones where players go all in, or inflict bad beats on others.

While poker on tv is great to help new poker players grasp how the game is played it should be accompanied by reading up other poker tips and poker strategy too.

Also don't forget that if you are watching a poker game that is being played just for TV that the players in it could well be playing different, they need to make things a bit more interesting and may "macho" themselves up a bit more than they would in usual tournaments!
